Unithai Group of Companies has opened the most advanced decommissioning business in Southeast Asia to service wellhead platforms and jackets supporting Thailand oil and gas industry under the name of “United Waste Management Company Limited”
Dr.Chulapong Taweesri, Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Industry of Thailand with Dr.Attasit Korchaiyapruk, Managing Director of United Waste Management Company Limited jointly open the United Waste Management Company Limited (UWM). UWM’s vision is to provide decommissioning services focusing on cleaning and dismantling of Wellhead Platforms and jackets supporting Thailand oil and gas industry. The company is a subsidiary of the Unithai Shipyard & Engineering Limited located in Sriracha District, Chonburi Province. Mr. Naris Palakawong Na Ayudhya, Senior Permanent Secretary of Sriracha District, Pol.Capt.Tanabodee Toobteanrat, Assistant Director of Laem Chabang Port, Mr. Rawat Khiewsanit, Deputy Mayor of Laem Chabang, Mr. Sukhum Indaeng, Deputy Mayor of Laem Chabang, Assoc. Prof. Sutha Khaothian, Ph.D. Director of the Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management, Laem Chabang Community Leaders and honored guests attended UWM opening ceremony as well.
Dr. Attasit Korchaiyapruk Managing Director of United Waste Management Company Limited said “The company is a subsidiary of Unithai Shipyard & Engineering Limited with business focus on supporting and providing decommissioning services on Wellhead Platforms and jackets to support oil and gas industry of Thailand. The company located within the area of Unithai Shipyard & Engineering Limited, Sriracha District, Chonburi Province with a factory area of 10,891 square meters. The main facilities consist of 2 sorting plants with the capability to handle for 2 wellhead platforms and jackets at a time with an annual capacity to support on average 8-10 platforms.
Currently, there are approximately 400 petroleum wellhead platforms in the Gulf of Thailand with many wellhead platforms have been in service for more than 20 to 30 years. Many of these platforms may not be economical in term of production or has reached the end of life which must be managed using the best management, operational process and practices. UWM is set up with an aim to be the leader in the area of decommissioning with advance facilities that can provide the best services to clients safely and to ensure the highest standard and practices protecting the environment. The company also focus on supporting development of industrial competitiveness of Thailand in the oil and natural gas sector which is an integral part driving the country’s economy forward. This new business can also help further develop skills of workforces and enhance our capability to compete with other countries as a part of industrial development of Thailand. Dr. Attasit Korchaiyapruk, said “UWM is one of the most advance factory in Southeast Asia Region providing full services on decommissioning and decontamination of Wellhead Platforms and related areas supporting Oil and Gas sector. The company expected to start operating on its first project in Thailand by the end of September or beginning of October, 2019. This will be the first complete full-scale decommissioning project on full sets of topsides and jackets in Thailand.”
